Your Message Dear Toronto City Council, Good public transit is vital for a healthy city. To ensure Toronto has a good transit system our TTC must be kept affordable and properly funded, maintained and operated. So why is City Hall planning to cut the TTC's budget by 10%, especially when more people are using the TTC than ever before? And why is there talk of raising TTC fares? Budget Cuts and Fare Hikes will do nothing to help the record number of Torontonians who use the TTC every day. Forcing transit riders to pay more to be squished on to overcrowded, less frequent buses will only keep people away from using the better way. It doesn't have to be this way. We all know our TTC needs improvements. And we know a better TTC means finding more money. I share City Council's desire to see the Provincial Government return to the Fair Share funding model of providing half of the TTC's operating subsidy. That's why I encourage you to: 1. Vote against the 10% reduction in the TTC's operating budget. 2. Vote against the proposed 10c fare hike. 3. Ask the Province to return to fair funding of the TTC's operating costs. We won't get a better TTC by creating more crowding and cutting bus service. We will get a better TTC by investing in more and better service and getting the Province to pay its fair share. I look forward to your reply and to your vote in support of a better TTC for the more than 502 million rides customers will take on the TTC next year.
